The approach from the west

The approach from the A1

From the A1 North

Travel down the A1 until you reach the Markham Moor junction. Major road works have recently been completed, creating a new flyover and slip roads instead of an island and sat nav systems may not recognise them yet.

Leave the A1 at the junction signed to Lincoln (A57), Retford and East Markham. This comes directly after you pass a ‘Little Chef’ restaurant with an unmistakable saddle shaped roof.

At the first roundabout at the top of the slip road, take the fourth turning signed Ollerton taking you across the bridge over the A1 to a second roundabout. At this roundabout follow the first exit, again signed Ollerton. The road turns to the left as you leave the roundabout and takes you up a hill through the hamlet of Sibthorpe past the Mussel and Crab restaurant on your right.

You will pass Tuxford Windmill to your left on the top of the hill. Continue into Tuxford, which takes you up between the shops. As the road bends to the left towards Lincoln there is a crossroads. Go straight ahead here and turn immediately right between the ‘Newcastle Inn’ and the ‘Sun’ public house. This is signposted 'Egmanton'.

Follow the road for about 2.5 miles. It will take you first into Egmanton, turning right as you pass the church in the village and passing ‘The Olde Plough’ public house on your right. Stay on the main road through the village and up the hill towards Laxton. At the top of this hill there is an ‘S’ bend followed by a right angled bend to the right. Immediately after this bend you pass the Laxton village sign. In about 50 yards the road forks.

Take the right hand fork, going straight on passing the church on your left and the village shop on your right. Lilac Farm is approximately 100 metres beyond the shop.

From the A1 South

Follow the A1 until you reach the junction marked ‘Carlton on Trent, Kneesall etc.’ approximately 6 miles north of Newark and shortly after passing an 'OK Diner'. At the top of the slip road, turn left, passing over a railway level crossing beside the 'great Northern' public house. Travel about 3 miles through the village of Ossington to a crossroads where Laxton is signed to the right. Turn right, following the road into Laxton, bearing left as you enter the village. Continue on the main road noting The Dovecote public house on your right.

Follow the road round to the left passing the church on your left and the village shop on your right. Lilac Farm is approximately 100 metres beyond the shop.

From the A46

From either direction, follow the A46 into Newark until you reach a large roundabout which stands just outside the town and stands close to the sugar beet factory. The roundabout has turnings to Newark, Kelham and Ollerton / Sheffield as well as the bypass to north and south. Take the turning towards the sugar beet factory which is signposted Sheffield and Ollerton.

Continue for approximately a mile along this road to a mini roundabout with several exits. Take the second exit, the A616, towards Sheffield.

Drive up this road for approximately 7 miles passing turnings to Caunton. You are travelling uphill and at the crest of the hill, you will come to a crossroads marked Kersall and Maplebeck to the left and Laxton and Norwell to the right.

Follow the road to Laxton, going straight over at the next crossroads and continuing into Laxton, bearing left as you enter the village. Continue on the main road. You will see the The Dovecote Inn on your right.

Follow the road round to the left passing the church on your left and the village shop on your right. Lilac Farm is approximately 100 metres beyond the shop.

From the M1 and the West

From all points west of the A1 head for Ollerton. Drive through New Ollerton and Boughton passing the ‘Clipper’ warehouse and industrial estates on both sides.

As the main road bends sharply to the left towards Kirton, go straight on to Laxton, passing under a railway bridge and up the hill past Hanson brick works.

Follow the main road for 1½ miles past Beth Shalom Holocaust Centre on the right and into Laxton. You will turn right after entering the village and Lilac farm is approx. 50 metres further on on your left.
